The Danish Girl
9:39 PMHello everyone, it's been a long time since my last post. I really do apologize for not continuing the story of my first trip to Japan. Since the trip has long since ended, I would not want to continue writing the stories about it because the feeling of excitement from the fresh experience has long since deteriorates. I actualy went for the second time to Japan visiting Hokkaido, the northern most island of Japan archipelago. I hope I could share it you next time on my blog.
Anyway, this time I would like to share some review of a movie I have recently just watch. The title of the movie is " The Danish Girl" which came out in 2015 and starred by Eddie Redmayne as Einer Wegener & Lili Elbe and Alicia Vikander as Gerda Wegener. It tells a love story inspired by the life of a Danish artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Lili Elbe was born a man under the name of Einer Wegener where after his marriage he discovered that he is actually a woman named Lili and pioneered the first transgender surgery in history.
So the story revolves around the journey of self discovery, denial, acceptance and changes of Einer Wegener into a woman named Lili Elbe accompanied by Gerda Wegener, his wife who later became supportive of him despite all the inner turmoil she experienced and the desire to keep her husband as the man that she loves. What makes this movie so surprisingly good, is that we can learn that love is loving unconditionally. Every sane woman on this world would have left their husband when they found out that their husband choose to be a transgender. But Gerda chose to stay by her husband to support and help him getting through all his confusion and inner turmoil even until her husband was completely, entirely, a woman through surgery. We could all learn some lessons from this story about love, compassion and generosity through Gerda's love for her husband. IMDB rate this movie on 7 out of 10 while I would give this movie a perfect 10. Everything from the act, cinematic picture, storyline and the music will take you into the story really deep. (Spoiler alert) The ending was quite moving as Lili Elbe who after receiving a surgery to reconstruct a woman's vagina lay down on her chair accompanied by Gerda said "I finally become Lili entirely. I dreamt that my mother carried me as a baby on her arms and called me Lili" and soon after that, Lili took her last breath, died from infection on her uterus. They were warned that the surgery was never attempted before and there is a high risk of infection and complication but Lili insist on getting the surgery as she refers to it as her only hope of living entirely herself.
If you all are interested in watching it, you can stream it online at subsmovies. This is one of those movie that will change your paradigm.
